The Steamboat Springs Education Fund (SSEF) is a non-profit, independent corporation that administers the proceeds of the half cent sales tax to expand resources and enhance the educational achievement of students in the Steamboat Springs, Soroco and Hayden school districts. The SSEF was established in 1993 and extended by voter approval in 3 subsequent elections.
The Steamboat Springs Education Fund Board of Directors reviews requests presented through its Commission and awards gifts that enhance student achievement and are in line with mission statements of the 3 districts.
The Education Fund revenues collected each year make a significant impact on local education. In 2009 the Education Fund awarded over 3 million in gifts for educational purposes.
