Next month, the Education Fund Board will be meeting on February 6 to hear the Technology Commission’s budget presentation. On February 20, Educational Excellence Commission will be giving its budget presentation. These meetings of the Education Fund Board also begin at 7 p.m. in the High School Teachers Lounge.

The Steamboat Springs School District leadership team presented its priorities for funding to the Education Fund Board in December. Now, each commission will examine these requests and any others they receive before deciding on gifts to the school district later this spring.

The Steamboat Springs Education Fund has been financed by a half-cent sales tax since 1993. Voters have renewed the tax three times to strengthen public education. During the past year, EFB gifts totaled $3 million to reduce class size, assist English language learners, plan for the middle school expansion and provide technology training and hardware upgrades.

EDUCATION FUND BOARD REPORTS TO COMMUNITY DEC. 5

The Steamboat Springs Education Fund Board will make a report to the community Wednesday, December 5 starting at 7 p.m. at Steamboat Springs High School, 45 E. Maple St. The Fund Board’s three commissions will report on grants made to expand resources and strengthen public education in Steamboat Springs. The public is invited.

The half-cent sales tax approved in 1993 and 1998 generates funds each year to benefit the Steamboat Springs School District. Commissioners will report on the grants gifted to the school district during the 2006-2007 school year.

The December 5 meeting will also be an opportunity to hear the leadership team of the Steamboat Springs School District discuss the needs of the school district for the 2007- 2008 school year. This presentation will guide the work of the Education Fund Board this coming year.
